The saddest day of the year so far was a few weeks ago when the season finale of Games of Thrones aired on HBO. I’m going to have to wait 9 months for new episodes. This is entirely too long. That’s as long as it takes a baby human to grow from conception to birth.
I know this, because my wife is currently pregnant, and the last 9 months have been incredibly slow, and filled with anticipation.
I love Game of Thrones. It’s truly epic. Just when you think it could not possibly get any crazier, something completely inappropriate and beyond the realm of anything good and decent in all of humanity happens. It’s like a train wreck from which you cannot look away.
Best. Show. Ever.
If you think waiting 9 months for new episodes of Game of Thrones is a long time (which it is), it pales in comparison to the amount of time I have to wait for one of my other loves: FIFA World Cup Soccer.
This only happens for one month every 4 years. 4 years! That’s 1,461 days. (Yes, I accounted for a leap year.) This is an incredibly long time to wait for the world’s best sporting event. International competition is so much fun, and when you add the most popular sport in the world to it, where we Americans are actually the underdog, you get a truly unmatched sporting spectacle.
So… What happens when you combine the greatest TV spectacle ever, and the greatest sporting spectacle ever?
Allow me to present to you, the Game of Thrones Soccer Kit project.
This project consists of all the major family houses in Game of Thrones, and shows a conceptual soccer uniform for each.
This is the coolest thing I’ve seen in a while.
This is a project designed by Nerea Palacios. She’s a fashion designer from Barcelona, and she runs the tumblr blog I Want To Work For Nike.
Based on the quality of her work, I’d say the folks in Beaverton, Oregon need to give her a look.
We love your stuff Nerea, almost as much as we love Game of Thrones and the World Cup.
I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN! (well, maybe in Russia 2018 anyway…)
